Zambia SafariHome to 19 wildlife parks and some of the continent's finest scenery, Zambia is still seen by many as the last preserve of the truly wild Africa. Its size and remoteness have held progress at bay, with the result that the parks have an untouched beauty that will restore your sense of adventure as you explore them. ![]() South LuangwaThis is the largest of the wildlife parks. Situated close to the border with Malawi, it is also one of the best and arguably the finest park in Africa. Dramatic woodland scenery, open views and lots of natural waterholes support a rich variety of wildlife, including elephant, lion and buffalo. The park's guided walking tours are legendary, putting you right in touch with the bush, and if you are lucky you will see one of its many leopards on a night drive.
Kafue National ParkKafue is one of the most isolated parks in Africa. The Kafue River habitat of dry bush and river forest are ideal for a large mix of game. You can travel through the park in an open Landrover staying each night at different bush camps. You will be accompanied by an expert guide who will take you on walking tours through the bush. The Zambezi RiverThe great Zambezi River forms the border between Zambia and Zimbabwe, with many of the attractions accessible from the Zambian side. Quiet luxury camps upstream of Victoria Falls provide a refreshing alternative to the busier Zimbabwean side and are a good base for tours of the Falls and the town of Livingstone. The views of the Falls from Zambia are, if anything, even more spectacular than those from Zimbabwe, and canoe trips on the Upper Zambezi can also be arranged, staying in either tented lodges or camps. White water rafting from the Zambian side of the Falls allows you the
added excitement of entering the river at Cataract One, right at the base of the Falls, with an
easy walk down to the river. The return hike is a little trickier and sometimes means a climb up
a ladder!
The Lower Zambezi National Park is located just across the river from Zimbabwe's Mana Pools in Zambia's south east corner. It stretches across the flood plain of the river to the escarpment of the Zambezi Valley. One of the greatest sights is to watch the mountains turn a beautiful shade of pink as they are hit by the setting sun. There are excellent opportunities to view game and the myriad colours of the country's profusion of flowering plants. Staying at one of the luxury lodges bordering the park you can also enjoy canoe trails and game drives throughout the season, which runs from May until September. |
