Little Governors Camp, Kenya
The camp that Africa aficionados swear by, Little Governors, casts its spell over all who visit, from presidents to honeymooning couples.
The tents are tucked away around a large watering-hole that teems with animals and bird life. The spectacle of game-viewing from your tent surpasses expectation, with giraffe, elephant and warthog.
Intimate in character, Little Governors Camp has just 17 tents, set in a tranquil and secluded spot. To get there, you first have to cross the Mara River by boat, then walk, escorted by armed guards, through the forest. Dawn is the best time to be out on the savannah to catch the game as it wakes, and come the evening, it's time for chilled drinks and tall tales around the blazing campfire; then, finally, a delicious dinner and a hot water bottle to warm your bed.
Hot Air Ballooning
For a totally unique safari experience, enjoy a game-viewing adventure from the Governors' hot air balloons. The adventure begins just before dawn. There is an absolute stillness as you float above the plains. The sounds below drift clearly upwards: a lion's roar or an elephant crashing through the bush. At the finish of the balloon safari, enjoy a champagne breakfast in the bush, cooked on the balloons' burners.
