Kenya Safari

Ol KanjauEast Africa holds a very special place in many people's hearts. A visit to Kenya will be rewarded by some of the most spectacular wildlife and dramatic scenery on earth. From the snow-capped peak of Mount Kenya to the vast rolling grasslands of the Maasai Mara, from the Great Rift Valley to idyllic, sandy beaches ... Kenya has it all.

The Rift Valley

Stretching the length of the country, 70 km wide and with escarpments 900 metres high, the Rift Valley contains a series of freshwater and soda lakes. The soda lakes of Baringo and Naivasha create an ideal feeding ground for flamingoes. A stay at one of A tribesman ...the lodges on the shore of Lake Baringo or Naivasha offer an ideal base from which to explore this area. Hell's Gate National Park and Mount Longonot are close at hand. It is said that there are 400 species of birds at Lake Baringo - considering that there are only 500 species in the whole of North America this is truly a twitcher's paradise.

Central Highlands and Mount Kenya

To the north of Nairobi stretch the hills and valleys of the Aberdares and Mount Kenya. The Aberdare National Park is home to the famous Ark and Treetops Lodges, offering unparalleled views of the animals as they come down to the waterhole to drink. The snows of Mount Kenya feed numerous streams and offer excellent trout fishing. Treks up the mountain can be arranged, but at 5,199 metres it is not for the faint hearted. To the north, luxury game ranches such as Lewa Downs and Borana offer a chance for a very private exclusive safari.

Elsa's Kopje - named after the orphaned lioness reared here by George and Joy Adamson ...

Samburu National Park

The Samburu National Park was set up over twenty years ago to the north of Mount Kenya. The permanent water and forest attract a wide range of wildlife, including elephant, cheetah, giraffe and zebra, and leopards are also seen regularly. Accommodation is either in lodges or on small game ranches outside the park.

Meru National Park

Meru National Park is an undiscovered gem, representing wild Africa at its most alluring. The private hideaway of Elsa's Kopje, named after the orphaned lioness reared by George and Joy Adamson, is perched on top of Mugwongo Hill, on the site of George Adamson's first camp.

Tortilis CampAmboseli National Park
The snows of Kilimanjaro loom above the plains of Amboseli National Park. It is home to some of the largest elephants in Africa and is the setting for Tortilis Camp. Natural springs create a seasonal lake that abounds with birds and wildlife, and the backdrop of the mountain sets the scene for walks with a Maasai warrior or enjoying a sundowner from the top of a nearby hill.

In the nearby Chyulu Hills, Ol Donyo Was Lodge creates a very special atmosphere for a private safari on your very own game ranch.

Wildebeest

The Maasai Mara

The Mara, the jewel in Kenya's impressive crown, has been made famous by many BBC wildlife documentaries. The area abounds with game all year round. From July to September, the great wildebeest and zebra migration takes place. Many lodges, including Governors' Camp set on the banks of the Mara River, are centre stage for one of the last great migrations left in the world - a sight that will stay with you forever.

The Coast

The Indian Ocean coastline stretches from Lamu Island in the north to Funzi Keys in the south. For the beach addict there are a range of different types and styles of accommodation, from large hotels to undiscovered hideaways. Mobasa and Malindi both have Funzi Keysresort style hotels such as Hemingways and the Serena Beach. Funzi Keys, on the other hand, is ideal for people wanting complete exclusivity and luxury. Hidden away on its own island, it sets new standards in luxury in East Africa. The large thatched rooms and main building reflect the coastal architecture. In the evening, dinner is served on an arab dhow anchored off the beach. The thrill of deep sea fishing and scuba diving can also be arranged.
